august16th: Thank you for the design advice yesterday! :) on a side note the buttons on the side of your page are coming up as empty boxes with a blue question mark on it.
No Worries :)
My site was wordpressed hacked! I’ve been flooded with design work and I haven’t had a chance to sit down and shift through all the code and delete the nasty stuff. So thats why the images don’t work as they’re uploaded onto my main website.
BTW my issue of Ink Arrows Arrived! I’ll take some photos when I’ve got time and do a review! (i’m flooded with design work atm).
riotaylor: I can't seem to access your website!! D: I hope this is just me being retarded being so tired and it being late.
I know! hahah it got wordpressed hacked! haha herpa derpa I work at a web company you’d think I’d have this kind of stuff sorted. I’ve been flooded with design work and I haven’t had a chance to sit down and shift through all the code and delete the nasty stuff.
Hope you’re well!

jamesdaly: I have no idea how to reply to your answer so I'm submitting another 'ask'! I'm clearly not Tumblr-pro. Facebook may be easier! I studied at COFA, UNSW in Sydney :) you're in Perth aren't you? Where are you studying? Are you an anime fan by any chance? A lot of your character work reminds me of some great anime art!
Sorry for my late reply! I’ve kinda overloaded my self with 3 freelance jobs and full time work (all graphic design stuff). I was originally enrolled at the universities in Perth, first Curtin and then UWA. I then settled on Tafe, the central institute of technology to study graphic design from a Certificate 4 to an Advance Diploma. I graduated last year and I now work full time in a web/app designing/developing studio.
Haha I get asked a lot if I’m into anime. I’ve watched a very small amount of series, I do however love Miyazaki films. I would defiantly say anime did not influence my style however the artist who did influence me were! so I got my influences through them.
facebook chat sounds fine, I’ll see if i can hunt you down stalker style.

Every one, this is my younger sister. Check out her artworks via her tumblr.
jamesdaly: Hey! I just checked out your Tumblr after you liked that photo on mine and couldn't not say hi haha as I'm ALSO a March 1990s Australian kid, studied graphic design, making screen-printed tshirts! That's just too many similarities for me not to give an internet high 5 over, so wi-five! I also wanted to say I love your designs, you're really talented :)
Haha Awesome! *hi fives
Thank you very much and for stopping in to say hi :)
Where did you study your graphic design?
insanism: Love your illustration work. Whoo hoo!
Thank you! :) also thanks for watching back.
cosmiacian said: That is awesome. LIke, super awesome. You’re housemate is amazing!
haha she sure is! You can see her tumblr here Sckry

Moo’s prices are pretty steep, to put in perspective I got 500 business cards on 400 gsm, matte lamination with the option of spot UV on both sides for only $110. These were bought in Perth WA one of the most expensive cities in the world.
I believe its because Moo has a huge market dominance and because they offer a simple and easy option to order online. Perhaps look for a local trade printer (print place that deals with designers only or any one who know how to correctly set up a file). Also 90% of the time local printers will give you a great discount if you say your a student! I basically got my final design portfolio at cost price.
I know getting printing online is super easy and quick (thats why they charge more) but building a relationship with a local printer is great for when you need to do complex projects for clients in the future!
Special finishes might not impress those outside the design industry but other designers or potential employers will notice the little details.

Great use of gradients.
oh and 600 gsm is great! but not for carrying around, i have a few business cards in my wallet but if they were 600 gsm I doubt i’d be able too fit many.
Ok thats just my 2 cents!
That is an amazing price for that many cards and what the card was printed on and with. Also given that the cards were printed in Perth, you got an amazing deal.
Moo is pretty expensive, especially if you are ordering large quantities.I’m look at ordering like 50 cards right now. The reasoning behind that is that i’m not sure what I want my identity to be yet. I’m trying to experiment and see what works and what doesn’t. Also to see what peoples response is to the cards.
I actually know a lot of printers, through my dad who does design/marketing. I’m actually interning with someone who was, well is, a printer for 20 years. I will definitely ask about printing options for the cards though. I really need to learn to utilize the resources around me…
That business card design is gorgeous. I’ve never seen a gradient like that on a business card.
I really appreciate your advice and your 2 cents on the topic. It’s really helpful for me because i’m not in school at the moment. So any lit bit of information is helpful.
I defiantly know what its like trying to perfect or work out what your own branding and identity is. Working with a printer is a great opportunity, a lot of graduate designers never learn about print processes. There’s still so much I don’t know.
Moo is a good option then if you’re going with 50 cards :)
good luck! keep posting the wips.
Seeing as we’re talking about business cards, here are mine. The green line work has a spot UV varnish on it.
Sorry my iPhone 3 has a terrible camera! do they have Instagram for ipad?
My housemate came home with a surprise present for me!

More experiments.
fairhelenaravenclaw answered your question: I really need business cards because I keep…
this is really nice. it’s straightforward and easy to read. but did you have any other fonts for the AL? I just think it’s hard to see the L
Yeah i’m too sure about the AL part. I’m trying to think of either a new typeface or an icon that describes me or something like that.
julia-alison replied to your photo: I really need business cards because I keep…
Have you got plans for the back? and what about special finishes, I have a spot UV on mine (looks awesome on black). Looking good :)
I thinking of putting a pattern on the back or a larger version of the icon. Not sure yet though. I’m going to be printing through [Moo.com] so i might get them printed on their Luxe cards. i(http://us.moo.com)
